Oracle Chooses Chile for Global Support Center

California-based software giant Oracle has announced that it has selected Chile as the location for a global support center to serve the company’s clients in the U.S. and Canada as well as other Latin American countries. The Center, which will be housed in a new five-story building and employ some 290 engineers, will handle sales and the delivery of computer programs and licenses and provide customer support over the telephone and via Internet.

The center - Oracle’s first such facility in Latin America - will be developed with the support of the High-Tech Investment Promotion and Attraction Program of CORFO, the Chilean government’s economic development agency (by Bussiness Chile) .

This is the new building under construction at the moment:

Reporting from Gold Coast - AUSOUG 2008 Conference – Part II

Filed under: News, General — admin @ 15:08

Hi folks,

Two down and just one more to finish this year presentations. The Gold Coast conference was excellent, I made some very good friends (I hope) and I got some very good feedbacks and tips regarding my presentation. This time I had a little more time to share with some fantastic and friendly people like Chris Muir, Connor McDonnald and wife, Tim Hall, Alex Gorbachev,Dennis Remmer, Martin Power, Andre Araujo, and many many other great peolple in the conference, also I want to say to Chris thank you for all your hospitality and I’ll be waiting to see you on your next visit to New Zealand.

This time Tim Hall got the second place again ;) and Connor McDonnald got the 3rd place. Next round will be Rotorua,NZ (score 1-1 – because Connor got the 1st place [Best Speaker] on Perth), and I’ll let you guys know the final score next week.

The last conference day started very early, with an excellent presentation done by Rich Niemiec about 11g new Features (at 07:00 AM), everyone in the conference was waiting to see Tom Kytes presentation after lunch, Tom came to this year conference with his daughter, and the conference finished with a excellent keynote session by Rich Niemiec again, this time talking about the Oracle history (with several interesting information and pictures), here are some pics from the last 2 days:

Reporting from Gold Coast - AUSOUG 2008 Conference (Pre-Conference Notes)

Filed under: News, General — admin @ 11:09

Hello,

The flight was great, Ufff I was a little scare :) only the weather is not helping but I hope to have the opportunity to go to the beach and enjoy a little before Wednesday Night. Gold Coast looks to be a nice place, the airport is very little and don’t have almost anything there…. I went to walk a little around the hotel and I found a nice Mall called Pacific Fair, is a huge mall with over 300 stores. The prices here are a lot better than NZ and It’s time to Christmas shopping…ohhh Lord…

I’m working at this moment on some adjustments on my presentation, which will be just after Tom Kytes Key Note presentation. I hope to have the opportunity to meet him and also chat a little bit if possible.

Here are some pictures from this beautiful side of Australia:

Pre-Gold Coast Conference

Filed under: News, General — admin @ 09:06

Here I’m, preparing my luggage for this trip and enjoying my family for few moments. This will be my second conference in 2 weeks. This kind of situation is a little new for me due that I was a speaker in the past just for a few and small conferences, and If you asked me few months ago if I’ll be doing this kind of Conference Tours I’ll told you “NOOO”, are you crazy?

Now I’m starting to enjoy it (probably I’m crazy already, who knows?), and I’ll try to do more and more conferences next year as possible.

I will keep all you guys informed about any news and very soon I’ll post some new pictures from this beautiful part of the World locate in the East Coast of Australia.

I just hope to have better flights this time, because I’m a little scare after some nice experiences I got on my flights to and from Perth.

1st, when traveling to Perth, my seat was located in the aisle side and the lady in my left side was using her seat and ½ of mine seat also. You can’t imagine how I felt that 5 hours of it, any time any person or flight attendant passed thru the aisle they hit me, because half of my body was haggling out my seat.

2nd,  when traveling back I requested  a nice window seat, great one more time the flight was full , and to my happy night my seat was damaged and the recline button was not working, can you imagine have 5 nice hours trying to sleep on this situation ? (23:30 to 5:00 AM :(  flight to Sidney)

Are you having problems with the OEM Host Credential?

Filed under: Oracle FAQ, Grid Control, Questions, General — admin @ 08:38

If you are using LINUX/Windows the hostname credentials should be the same user who has installed the oracle  database software, if Windows the user you are using need to be member of the ORA_DBA group and have Local Security privilege ‘Log on as a batch job’.

What you need to do is go to:

 Start—->

Programs—->

Admin tools—->

Local security policy —>

Local policies —>

User rights assignments

In the list to your right, look for ‘Log on as a batch job’, double click and add the same OS local user you using to access OEM web to the group.

I hope this tips will help you  solve your problem ;)

Some News for RAT (Real Application Testing)

Filed under: RAT, News, Migrations, Others, General — admin @ 07:24

“Real Application Testing is Now Available for Earlier Releases“

Oracle Database 11g introduced Database Replay and SQL Performance Analyzer as part of the Real Application Testing option to enable businesses identifies issues with system changes before production deployment in other words, Oracle Real Application Testing facilitates the testing and validation of system changes by recording a workload from a production system and replaying it with all the original characteristics such as timing, concurrency, and transaction dependencies, on another system for testing purposes, also it will analyze the impact of a change on application performance by identifying degraded SQL statements and advising how to remediate them.

When released, the only previous release of Oracle that you was allowed to use it was 10.2.0.4. Now RAT is available for earlier (for pre-11g database) release like:

  • 9.2.0.8,
  • 10.2.0.2,
  • 10.2.0.3.

This are great news for us, and will allow us to test and get more information to evaluate any probably upgrade to 11g.

This functionality for pre-11g database releases is installed using the “opatch” utility and following instructions for the generic and platform specific in the “README” for the patches. For more information and to know what patches you will need to use, please refer to Metalink Note:  560977.1

OTN TechBlast October Edition

“Francisco Tours Australia and NZ: Oracle ACE (Database) Francisco Munoz Alvarez is presenting his paper “Logging or Nologging: That is the Question” at the AUSOUG National Conference Series in Perth (Oct. 6-7) and Gold Coast (Oct. 13-14); and the NZOUG 2008 Conference at Rotorua, New Zealand (Oct. 20-21).”  by OTN TechBlast October Edition

The first conference is already in the past, I was expecting to assist several good sessions but due to a technical problem (virus) with my laptop I was forced to use a big part of my time rebuilding it and my presentation. I know was my fault and I learned a lesson here, but I’ll catch it back on Gold Coast. I had the honor to shortly meet some great Oracle Professionals like:

  • Mr. Alex Gorbachev (Oracle ACE)
  • Mr. Connor McDonnald (Oracle ACE)
  • Mr. Penny Cookson (Oracle ACE)
  • Dr. Timothy Hall (ACE Director)
  • Mr. Chris Muir (ACE Director)
  • Mr. Dennis Remmer (ACE Director)
  • Mr. Martin Power (Oracle ACE)
  • Mr. Gavin Soorma

I’ll take this opportunity to congratulate these professionals for their great presentations and especially to Connor McDonnald for presenting the most entertaining session of the conference. His passion, confidence, and technique to present are one of the best I saw in my career.

I want to say thank you to the AUSOUG organization team, for the great job done on Perth and for invite me to be a speaker there.  The conference had a great ACE session called “ACEBook”, that was a very light and interesting informal Q&A session where I had the honor to be invited to be part on the ACE panel.

I want also to say “Welcome” to this side of the World to Mr. Alex Gorbachev, who just moved to Sydney, Australia a few weeks ago. I wish the best to him and his family in this new step in their lives.
